Spring is in the air!

Spring is in the air!!!  Happy May everyone!  Hopefully, we are done with the April showers and ready to experience all the May flowers.  We are half way into spring, only another month and a half before we come upon the first day of summer.  How have we been doing with our spring goals???  Have we been focusing on what's important to us?  Pushing just a little further?  If the answer is yes, I am sure you are happy & in turn, seeing the results of your hard work.

If the answer is no, not a problem!!!  Just start anew tomorrow.  It's never too late to start over.  It's the best thing you could do!! Don't give up!!!

As I mentioned last month, one of my two goals was to cook a little more healthy & with less salt, as a result of my husband having his blood pressure checked and being diagnosed as borderline high!!!  Although I never really put a salt shaker on the table, it seemed the ingredients I was cooking with in the past had contained high salt contents that I was unaware of.  The day after his doctor's appointment, I bought myself a new cookbook, Googled the hell out of "low sodium" recipes, and educated myself about a change in lifestyle to lower blood pressure without medication.  I'll be damned if I'm going to watch my 46 year old husband go on medication.  Since I do love to cook, I thought of this as a kind of challenge.  Would I still be able to cook & serve the same appetizing meals as before but with less salt content & still not have it taste bland?  Well, this led to a whole kitchen cabinet clean out!!!  I rearranged all my spices, bought new ones & added several "no salt seasonings".

It was fun to educate myself.  For example, learning to increase potassium, learning little tricks to keep things tasty using vinegars, oils & lemon juice.  I thought to myself, this is great, not only will it benefit my husband, but the whole family.  I certainly don't need the extra salt, as my two girls don't either.  It has truly been a lifestyle change.

I am thrilled to report that three weeks after his diagnosis, my husband went for a stress test.  His blood pressure had decreased by 25 points!!!!  A week later, he visited his Cardiologist for a follow-up & his blood pressure had remained at that same number.  Needless to say, we still have more work ahead of us....the dreaded word "exercise"!  I love it, exercise, that is, ....he's not a fan!!!  With the nicer weather coming, we will get out for walks & take the bikes out.  He knows I'm right & there's nothing worse than a nagging wife!!!

I hope I was motivational for anyone who needed it!!!!  The days are getting longer, the weather is getting nicer, what better way to enjoy it than to feel good!!!  So many fun things to look forward to, Mother's Day, Cinco de Mayo, graduations, & even simple family get-togethers.  Make them count, make them your best!

Again, please don't forget to use sunscreen!!! Cool air & hot sun can cause irreparable damage!! Also, if you have been out for a day in the sun, back by popular demand,  Limited-Edition Mary Kay After-Sun Replenishing Gel puts the care in sun care! Formulated with botanical extracts rich in soothing antioxidants, this gel absorbs quickly and replenishes vital moisture to the body. Great for skin exposed to sun and wind. Get warm-weather ready today!
30 minutes a day!!!  Do something new for yourself to achieve your spring goal.  Walking, a new class at the gym, a new "healthy" recipe, anything that will clear your head & help you create a positive result for yourself.

You're always beautiful when you smile.......

Spring has sprung!!!

Ok, well maybe not here on Long Island, but it will!!!  You know what they say...."April showers brings May flowers"!  A little rain will do us all good!

Spring is a time for rebirth, renewal & rejuvenations.  April is a great month to take advantage of this opportunity.  Warmer temps & nicer weather gives us a great excuse to start anew!!!  Use this way of thinking inside & outside of your body.

A great way to get ready for the summer and start anew this spring is of course to prepare & treat your skin.  A great opportunity, this month, is to try our Microdermabrasion Set by Mary Kay.   This set allows you to exfoliate & moisturize at home, at your convenience, with the same results you'd get from a dermatologist at a fraction of the cost.

After exfoliating, do try a self tanner!!! It will definitely give you a boost on the days that aren't so springy!!!  Tan Towels are great, as is Jergens Natural Glow.  If you're giving the Microdermabrasion Set a try, why not order Mary Kay's Self Tanner? It is non-streaky, very subtle & has a terrific, fresh smell.  I use them all & it's a great pick-me-up!!
Although it's not 80 degrees outside, and your not lying in the sun, this weather is the most dangerous to the skin.  You're out walking, bicycle riding or maybe just walking the dog.  You don't realize how hot & strong the sun really is, since the air is still cool.  DON'T FORGET THE SUNBLOCK!!!  Windburn & sunburn are not an uncommon occurrence during this season.  Be sure to use a moisturizer or solution on your face that contains sunscreen.  I use Mary Kay's Day Solution....great smell, solution not a moisturizer so it's not greasy or oily and it goes on first before moisturizer & foundation.  It contains SPF 25.  Love it!!!  Regardless of what brand you use, be sure to get that SPF on your face!!

Coral & peach tones are the HOT colors for spring.  Give it a try.  Try something new & refreshing.  Especially if coral or peach is not a color that you usually wear.  You may have just found your new favorite color!!!

Remember....refresh & rejuvenate!!!  Give your body that same rejuvenation.  On a nice day, get
outside.  Thirty minutes does a body good.  A great idea is to set a "Spring Goal".  During the spring months, April, May & June, set a goal.  It can be loosing weight, 10% of your body weight is a great guideline.  It can also be exercise.  Walking is a great first stepping stone.  Set a goal to walk 15-30 minutes, or maybe 1/2 to 1 mile.  If you're already a walker, try running.
Whatever it is, be sure to set a realistic goal.  By June 21, the first day of Summer,  you'll find you will have refreshed & rejuvenated not only your body but your mind too!!!  When you attain your goal, I think you may like what you see!!!

My goal is to cook more healthy & use products that contain less salt.  You'd be surprised to learn the amount of salt in food to begin with.  I'm doing this since my husband was just diagnosed with high blood pressure.  The second part of my goal is to get out & walk with him after dinner whenever possible.  Those are the only two things I can do to help him.  The rest is up to him.  He's on his own!!!
My new cooking regime will most likely be my topic for the May issue!  Low sodium all the way!!!

Let's get started on our way to a refreshing & rejuvenating Spring!!!  Remember, there's always a 10% discount on all Mary Kay products for first-time customers who would love to renew their skin!!!!

You're always beautiful when you smile......

Get your tan on!!!

It's gloomy March!  Feeling a little blah, washed out?  A quick, "safe" beauty fix is easy!  This is one of my ultimate favorites & highly rated.  You won't look like an Ooompah Loompah or a Cheeze Doodle gone bad!

Love using the Tan Towel.  This can be purchased through HSN.com
Price range is aound $20 a box.

It's a very natural looking tan & easy to use. The Tan Towel looks just like a Handi Wipe.  I use it on my face & neck.  This way, sometimes, I don't need much foundation & just a little bronzer.  Just be sure to wash your hands after use.

It gives you a great boost for looking great & a little sun kissed!!
Have fun & give it a try!!
Remember.....the best beauty secret is a great skincare system & a smile!!! :D

In like a Lion.....out like a Lamb!!!!

Are you a lion or a lamb???  Happy March everyone!  Only 20 days until the official start of spring, & I’m sure, for most of us, it can’t come soon enough!!  It’s so easy to get into a rut or feel depressed at this time of year.  To avoid feeling like a lion, there are a few things you should remember to alleviate that feeling.  I consider myself a positive person.  For me the “glass is always half full” (yet for those who know me well, that glass is usually a wine glass!!  Ha, ha!!), “things could always be worse” or “let’s look on the bright side” or the old standard, “when life gives you lemons…add vodka!!"  are usually what comes to my mind first.
Remember beauty is not just what you put on your face.  Your mental outlook will always affect the way you look.  If you’re “in a good place” it will show on your beautiful face.  With that said, to maintain a positive outlook, do something for yourself!!!!  Whatever it may be!!   I like to call it a “special treat”!!  Take an afternoon & do something to get away even if for only an hour.  If you like to shop, go out to a store that you always say you want to check out.  Just browse, no pressure, no need to spend any money.  Just go out & look around, get ideas for fashion or home.  If it’s exercise you may never find time for, plan a morning or afternoon & take a class or go for a walk with your iPod on.  Music is a great mood enhancer.  Your favorite tunes on a nice afternoon or at the gym will definitely raise your spirits.  It has been an awful winter, but now is the time we do squeak out an unseasonably warm day to get outside and take advantage of it.  If getting together with your friends is a “special treat”, plan it & grab a lunch special.  A nice visit with friends will be the perfect prescription for curing the winter blues!!!
Now that spring is just around the corner, what might raise your spirits is treating yourself to some new beauty colors.  Look out, because orange & pink are hot colors for spring along with purple/lavender.  Go out & try a new shadow or gloss.  That’s one of my “favoritest” things!!!
Remember one thing, while it’s still cold & dry out, you need to exfoliate & moisturize.  Not even a new color will look nice if you don’t take care of your skin first.  Your face is a canvas & that canvas needs to be taken care of before we treat it.  That is the first and number one rule of beauty is good skin care!!!
Exfoliating twice a month is a good rule of thumb.  Following with a daily skincare routine of wash, tone & moisturize will create your perfect canvas.  Mary Kay’s “Miracle Set” is just that, all in one place!!!  A wash with tiny beads to exfoliate daily, with toner built in.  A day solution with SPF 25, a light moisturizer & a night solution filled with vitamin beads.  Love, love, love it!!!  Check out my website & give it a try.  That can be your “special treat” for yourself this month.  You will see positive results and will have given your winter skin a “special treat” and turn yourself into a lamb for spring.
This month only….March Madness!!!
Give the Miracle Set a try & receive a 10% discount on your first purchase!!   Visit my website by clicking on the link to the right….www.marykay.com/lrini & place your first order on your way to beauty!!!
Whether you’re a lion or a lamb, do something fun for yourself…your “special treat”!!!!   Never forget the best beauty tip is to SMILE!!!  It takes more muscles to frown than to smile!!!
You’re always beautiful when you smile………

Happy February Everyone!!

Don't forget to moisturize & use sunscreen!!!!  Even though there may not be a lot of sun, the harmful rays are still shinning through!

Skin will definitely be dry due to the cold & dry air in the house.  Always moisturize morning & before bed.

A little tip....when you come out of the shower, while you still have some water on your skin, rub on baby oil all over your body.  Especially elbows & knees.  Simple & cheap!!!

Stay warm & dry!!!

February is for lovers!

Hi everyone!  My name is Lisa Rini & I am so thrilled to be part of the Venture Out family.  The fact that having met such great people involved in this publication, through Facebook, is just amazing to me.  I guess there's something very positive to be said about the "Social Networking" thing!!

A little about me....
I'm one month shy of 46, married to my high school sweetheart.  We'll be married 23 years in March and have 2 beautiful daughters, Stephanie, 18 & Jaclyn, 17.  I live on Long Island & love it.  An hour from Manhattan, an hour and a half from the East End wineries & 15 minutes from Jones Beach.  What better location than that?  All conducive to my favorite things....shopping, wine and sun & sand!

It seems I've always had an interest in beauty, hair, make-up, what girl doesn't???  One evening about 6 years ago my girlfriend invited me to a Mary Kay party.  I was in desperate need of a foundation that covered all my sins.  That said, I became a consultant.  I love their products & skin care system.  Of which I will write of quite often to introduce to all their amazing products.  Also with the opportunity to try them through me.

Having also an interest in fitness, like others I joined and cancelled many gym memberships.  About a year ago, a girlfriend, wanted me to join Lucille Roberts to attend, if nothing else their Zumba classes.  A year later.....I'm addicted!!! Yoga, Pilates and Zumba!

With a love for feeling & looking good, I hope to pass on my personal information, thoughts and knowledge on these topics.

As we enter my favorite month, February, my birthday month, we also celebrate Heart Healthy month, Valentine's Day,  as well as chilling temperatures.  What do we think of when we think of our Valentine??  Kissing!!!
During the winter months, our lips get chapped, dry & peel.  One way to eleviate that is to exfoliate them.  Also a great way to age defy!

You can do that very easily with a soft toothbrush, (designate a special one for your lips).  Ever so   gently, rub your lips for a few seconds with a dot of toothpaste on the brush.  Rinse your lips and then apply a thin coat of Vaseline when you are through.  Doing this once a week will keep your lips free of dry skin.  If you are looking for a product that does the same thing, Mary Kay has an amazing product in Satin Lips (c) Set.  It buffs away the dry skin, then moisturizes.  I am a religious user of this product, it also keeps your lip gloss or lipstick on longer.  I am obsessed with lip gloss!!!

So to celebrate Valentine's Day, treat your valentine to some super soft lips!!

Thanks for welcoming me to this great publication.  Like I told a friend, "I'm just a regular chick who enjoys feeling good and looking my best (at least most of the time)!!!"

Hopefully you will enjoy reading my ideas, suggestions and advice on looking good, feeling good & just having fun!!!
Till next month.....keep smiling!!!
Lisa
